Comparing my previous reading strategies and my current reading strategies entering this English class, I’ve seen quite a difference in my ability to actually ascertain and digest readings especially my own writing. Typically before I’d just underline and say “yes that is word and me understand word hur durrr”, however I’ve felt a greater understanding of writings and readings after actually using strategies that show greater benefit to me and help me understand the material. Instead of just underlining interesting things, I might google difficult words I might not understand or I might research a persons credibility by looking them up. I write key notes that I enjoy or dislike, make habits of symbols and words that will help me understand the material later when I reinvestigate. Some of these examples might simply be “relevant” or “?” or “interesting”.
