The writing by Beck does truly have both an interesting but confusing piece of writing. Julie uses a lot of question but doesn’t provide a lot of answers which leads me to believe whether to trust her credibility or not. It is tricky to answer his question in regards to whether I have many selves. I believe there are many moods and stages of life to be in, however you are yourself and how you channel your emotion will drive you to be how you are in that very moment. However I did truly appreciate when Galen spoke of how the blueprint of life was “go to school, graduate, get a job, get married, and have kids”, due to the simple fact it is quite literally the formula. To truly ponder that’s what everyone typically strives for in the first world. If you fail even one of these objectives you might be considered a failure. Overall, while I did grab a good grasp of the substance, I wish the author was a little bit clear on some points. However to quickly add on, the author had great use of evidence and credible sources.

  • I liked how you questioned the piece. It helps open it up to interpretation. At the same time, you should add more quotes and specific spots in the article where you asked questions or it took you by surprise. When you bring up the blueprint I think that there should be more of an explanation as to why you appreciated it, and also elaborate on what you mean by “it is quite literally the formula”. Many people find this “formula” constricting, does your culture or home life expect this of you? Do you find this constricting? Do you believe that everyone should follow the “blueprint”? It’s a good response to what you feel while reading the article.
