To many of the common millennia, art is believed to be something children do in their free time. Art is something that anyone can do, in addition, it doesn’t take priority in our currently world over STEM and other more difficult and rigorous courses. However, it is hypothetically stated that “art can make science better” due to the simple fact that at some point in time, it will become a “crucial source of scientific ideas”(Lehrer). Lehrer brings up a very controversial statement about whether or not art really belongs in our STEM endorsed society. Which infact, I do believe it should. Art does play a role in the human empathy and how we use critical thinking. If art had the potential be integrated into our common core and among the STEM related courses, it would absolutely benefit mankind as a whole to spread this type of teaching.

Is art worth integrating into the common core and STEM related courses? It is believed that art plays a significant role in “empathy and imagination”(Ma). In our currently society, it is believed that art is rather a fanatical hobby that someone does in their free time, rather than an actual skill used in every day life like STEM. Everyday paradigms speak of how you should learn to be a doctor, a lawyer, all heavy and difficult rigorous courses that are linear and difficult to master. However, based on recent evidence, it is believed that empathy and imagination provided by art, helps build great critical thinking skills and analysis. Has this overlook of art compromised our ability to truly understand treasure a crucial skill? It has been suggested that our common core introduces STEAM, a method of integrating art to our core so the students have more methods of exploring the “linear answer” and actually developing their own skill set and utilizing what they like to do. Overall, STEAM would seem to make a great asset in common society rather than the current STEM endorsed curriculum provided by the public schools.
